Documents required to get International Driving license:

  1. Your valid passport
  2. Valid Indian Visa copy
  3. Birth certificate
  4. Address proof
  5. Driving license from your home country
  6. Flight Tickets
  7. Photographs

It takes around 2-7 days to get an international driving license. 

People who are coming to India for a shorter stay period can also get the International Driving license. But as this license is only valid for one year, the people coming for more than one year need to get the Indian driving license.

The Indian driving license can be obtained from RTO or any authorized driving school. To get the Indian driving license, you need to fill complete the application process that requires the documents given below:

  1. An application form with required details
  2. A copy of the resident proof in India
  3. Proof of present address’
  4. Passport-sized photograph 
  5. Medical Fitness certificate.

Once you are done completing the driving classes, you will be provided with the 3 months of learning license. After this, you can apply for the Indian driving license, which will be valid until the Indian residence permit expires.

Indian Driving Rules are:

  1. Traffic drives on the left side of the road
  2. To drive the motorcycle you must be 16 years old whereas to drive other vehicles you must be 18 years old.
  3. The National Speed Limit is 144 Kilometer per hour in India and 80 km/hour for two-wheeler
  4. Seat belts are mandatory to wear
  5. The blood alcohol content limit is 0.03%, exceeding which can cause a fine of INR 10,000. This can also lead you behind the bars for 6 months or more.

The road condition in India is average and usually varies from place to place. But driving on Indian roads is quite chaotic. Minor violations of Traffic rules if quite common.
